Generative design: a new frontier, or the death of creativity?

Artificial intelligence offers all kinds of new opportunities, including the possibility of dominating matter. If we are aware of the properties of a material, we can let software generate the necessary form, achieving a degree of optimisation that would be impossible with conventional methods. This is called generative design, and it could revolutionise our conventional idea of design, in mechanical engineering, product design and architecture.
