South Sami museum and cultural center Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter has won the competition to design a new museum and cultural centre for the region of Sn?sa in Norway dedicated to the cultural heritage of South Sami. The Saemien Sijte will play an important role in the preservation of the culture, identity, language, history and community of South Sami. Historical buildings and construction techniques and traditional materials provided the architects with inspiration as they sought to translate the unity of Sami culture with the nearby nature into a new building that would maintain a constant relationship with the natural landscape around it. The museum and cultural centre stands on an embankment on the shore of Lake Sn?sa in Norway, on the edge of the forest 40 m above the surface of the lake.
