Shard of glass, London

Renzo Piano,

London,

Residences, Offices,

Steel, Glass,

It will be Europe's tallest building, a postcard picture representing London all over the world: the "shard of glass" designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano for London Bridge Station, in an area where new constructions fit into the city's infrastructure grid.

Shard of glass, London This imposing, unusual structure has, however, attracted some criticism and perplexity. Its impact on the landscape and the risk it may reduce the view from Saint Paul's Cathedral have caused concern. But these objections have been overcome, for according to the plans, the proposed building will not spoil the view from Saint Paul's or damage the historical layout and character of the Tower of London, the ancient prison where the Crown Jewels are kept.
