The 2009 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa will be SANAA studios of Japan’s first building in Great Britain.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009 - SANAA <br />(Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa) The Serpentine Gallery in London has appointed Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of studio SANAA in Japan to design the 2009 pavilion, which will be open from July to October 2009.
The Japanese studio?s architectural idiom combines aesthetic simplification with technical complexity, playing with light and perception.
The new project will host a coffee shop, events and conferences.
Serpentine Gallery director Julia Peyton-Jones and co-director Ulrich Obrist said:
"It is our dream come true to be working with world-leading architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA. Their work will be a wonderful addition to the Pavilion series, the only commission of its kind worldwide that allows preeminent architects to make their debut in this country and brings the best of contemporary architecture to London for everyone to enjoy once a year."
