The KfW Westarkade by the studio of Sauerbruch Hutton architects in Frankfurt, Germany has been named "Best Tall Building Worldwide". Winner of the initial selection for the best skyscraper in Europe, the building was identified as an example of environmentally responsible and sustainable design.
KfW Westarkade was preferred over other skyscrapers which won regional prizes for its integration into the existing urban context, made up of buildings, streets and parks. It was also chosen for its use of colour, which does not attempt to camouflage the building's volume but adds to its value.
Two additional prizes were presented during the evening, to Dr.Akira Wada for the influence of his studies of earthquake-proofing of tall buildings and an award for lifetime achievement for architect Adrian Smith of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture.
