Rem Koolhaas’ CCTV Headquarters in Beijing has been voted the best tall building of 2013.

Rem Koolhaas’ CCTV Headquarters voted best tall building of 2013

On November 7 the CTBUH presented the Best Tall Building Worldwide 2013 award to the CCTV Headquarters tower in Beijing designed by architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA.
The audience agreed, and without being aware of the judges’ decision chose to award the prize to the same tower.

Rem Koolhaas’ project was named best tall building among a list of finalists in each regional area including: The Bow, Calgary (Canada) by Norman Foster, The Shard, London, by Renzo Piano and Sowwah Square, Abu Dhabi, designed by Goettsch Partners.
Rem Koolhaas’ CCTV Headquarters is not shaped like a traditional skyscraper. It is not a tower in which the strong verticality of the construction makes it look two-dimensional, for it appears to be a three-dimensional object, opening up new pathways in skyscraper design.
