Philip Johnson: Gatehouse in Connecticut

Frank Gehry,

Pavilions, Libraries, Gallery,

Sculpture, Exhibition,

Philip Johnson's recent Gatehouse for his huge property in New Canaan demonstrates the architect's constant ambition to go down in the architectural history of his day; all the most important architectural movements have made their mark on this place.

Philip Johnson: Gatehouse in Connecticut All the architect's works since then, and the tree-covered land itself, will become a "National Trust" property. Their creation provided the architect with the perfect terrain for experimentation with his architectural convictions.
The sculptural Gatehouse is a visitors' centre crowning the circular route visitors take through the property as well as the American architect's long career.
From the Gatehouse visitors are taken to the lovely Glass House and the adjacent 1950 Guest House, fresh and opaque, redesigned in 1953 with its fine canopies, also used in the little "follies" by the pond.
