The Architecture Biennale will be held in Venice from August 9 through November 21 2010. This year’s title, "People meet in architecture", was announced at the end of January by the director of the 12th Biennale, Kazuyo Sejima, before representatives of the 54 countries that will be participating in the event.
"The idea is to help individuals and society relate to architecture, to help architecture relate to individuals and society, and to help individuals and society relate to each other", explained Kazuyo Sejima, adding that the exhibition will offer an opportunity to experiment with architecture’s potential and understand how it can express the new ways of living.
This year’s event includes two major initiatives: Architecture Saturdays and increased involvement on the part of universities. Architecture Saturdays will be weekly events organised by current director Kazuyo Sejima and directors of previous editions of the Biennale:Vittorio Gregotti (1975, 1976, 1978),Paolo Portoghesi (1980, 1982, 1992),Francesco Dal Co (1988, 1991), HansHollein (1996), Massimiliano Fuksas(2000), Deyan Sudjic (2002), Kurt W.Forster (2004), Richard Burdett (2006),Aaron Betsky (2008).
