PASEL.KUENZEL ZEEUWS HOUSING, The Netherlands
The 34 homes recently completed by Pasel.Künzel architects were constructed as part of the "Waterstad Zaanse Goese", the masterplan for Goes, a medieval Dutch town.
Pasel.Künzel?s project is part of an urban redevelopment plan for the city?s old port area. Residential buildings play a key role in their design.
Pasel.Künzel Architects reinterpret the building techniques and the traditional typological schemes for construction of contemporary buildings that become a trait d'union between the historic city and modern society.
The projects are based on apparently simple architectural choices, such as use of a homogeneous material, brick, and the repetitiveness of the facades, with windows set far back and decorated railings. This is not decoration for its own sake, but adds great lightness to the structure and brings to mind an important local tradition, bobbin lacemaking.
