Mvrdv, Fuksas are some of the architects who have accepted an invitation from the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf for the exhibition “Container Architecture”.
In recent years standardised transport containers have become a symbol of the global economy and for Werner Lippert, exhibition organiser, a symbol of living in our globalised, nomadic and mobile world.
The dimensions of these containers - 2.44 metres wide, 2.59 metres high and 6.06 or 12.192 metres long - are a challenge for architects and designers who have transformed them into student homes, holiday homes, residential buildings, stores and bridges, etc.
The exhibition at the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf includes completed architecture and also minimalist, practicable or futuristic designs that have been specially created.
24 of over 100 designs on show have been modelled to a scale of 1:5 and a catalogue contains all the works on show.
