New Yuppies – Intercontinental Beijing Sanlitun by Cheng Chung Design

Cheng Chung Design, an interior design studio located in Hong Kong, has brought a new concept of yuppie to the Intercontinental Hotel in Beijing. What Joe Cheng wants to express is the positive, optimistic, confident, kind spirit that characterises yuppies, but with updated colours. Black, white and grey are no longer the standard of ‘traditional’ yuppies . Today positive thinking and optimism derive from technology, so sapphire blue is the cardinal colour of the ‘New Yuppies’.

The whole interior design project is inspired by a hexagonal module that covers the building’s facades. The shape of the module, which recalls a diamond, has been used on various scales in the interior. A diamond is obtained by purifying raw stone with precise cutting – the same thing that Joe Cheng did in choosing the furnishings and works of art. It is a work of pure detail that creates amazement and wonder in everyone who enters. And it seems that the new yuppies like the magnificence.
