National Assembly for Wales
Richard Rogers PartnershipCardiff, under construction

The roof is the other key to Rogers?s design, extending like a wooden cape over the public spaces and projecting beyond them toward the sea over an open area or plaza. The conical volume opening onto the slate base continues up to the roof and ends in a lantern.
When the new National Assembly of Wales building opens, Cardiff can boast a building that is highly innovative in terms of both vocabulary and content. At the same time, Rogers? project forges links with local history through use of traditional materials.
