The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities
, in collaboration with Realdania
has announced that the design project presented by MVRDV
has won the “ the House of Culture and Movement ”
design competition. The construction represents a new type of urban development, namely a multi-purpose centre including exhibition areas, playgrounds, a park and health centre, forming a building that combines culture, entertainment, education and health under one roof. The House of Culture and Movement aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the population of Fredericksburg. The main building is a glass parallelepipedon containing six stacked ideal programmatic elements. Interior spaces are organized flexibly according to areas dedicated to different activities and include a main pathway. The garden, designed in collaboration with the landscape architects SLA, is organised into areas that reflect the activities in the building.
