MVRDV architects recently completed renovation of a commercial building in "Gangnam", one of Seoul’s trendiest districts, now famous all over the world because of the Korean pop song of the same name.

MVRDV CHUNGHA BUILDING, Gangnam Style
MVRDV?s renovation of a 1980 building in Gangnam, Seoul took only 9 months. The Dutch team?s project involved addition of a new level and complete renovation of the construction.
The key element characterising the new project is the building?s façade.

MVRDV replaced the anonymous continuous façade of strip windows built in 1980 with a new façade concept that makes the different shops and businesses in the building visible from outside.

The new façade will give each business its own window on the street. The windows are underlined by LED lighting with curved frames changing colour constantly, bathing the building?s white exterior in light of different colours so that its appearance changes all the time.
