Modena Football Club Promotion of the Modena football team to the first division of the Italian soccer championship has made it necessary to increase the capacity of the Alberto Braglia stadium to over 20,000 spectators.
The cost of the work was 12 million euros and was shared by the football club and the city administration, who preferred to redevelop the old stadium close to the old town centre, rather than building a new one on the outskirts of the city.
As proof the almost 70 years of history of the Braglia stadium, the original grandstand has been preserved, listed by the Monuments & Fine Arts Office, but everything else is new: away with the athletics track and the temporary metal structures, the curved sectors and the terraces have been knocked down to make way for a steel structure.
The refreshment bars, toilet facilities, press room, changing rooms with adjacent gymnasium and the Modena Football Club VIP lounge are also new.
