Migrant Garden Untouchable Landscapes is a non-profit organisation supported and funded by Politecnico di Milano and organised by 7 young architects with the active involvement of 40 architectural studios from 4 different continents with the participation of big names on the Italian and international architecture scene.
With the forced migration of birds from the Isola de Pinedo natural oasis in the province of Piacenza as their starting point, the 40 studios were asked to address the issue of sustainability in terms of protection and attention to landscape and environment. The participating architects had to design a house for birds using an innovative material provided by the company Acell Tech, a maker of panels for construction and military applications.
The project also had a second purpose: encouraging debate among the architectural studios and asking what elements might have an impact on their approach to design, and whether it still makes sense to talk about an architectural manifesto in a globalised cultural context.
On June 19 the 40 works were exhibited before the public in an opening installation in the 14th century cloister at Via Giovanni Battista Scalabrini 76, the Piacenza campus of the Faculty of Architecture of Politecnico di Milano; the exhibition then moved to the Piacenza Museum of Natural History, where it continues until July 31.
