Milano Design Week is over, but we feel we must pass on the "message in a bottle" launched by H2O Nuovi Scenari per la Sopravvivenza (H2O - New Scenarios for Survival), a non-profit association founded by Cintya Concari and Roberto Marcatti in 2005 for the protection of water and use of design as a tool promoting initiatives for raising awareness, organising workshops all over the world.
"A designer ought to know that objects can become tools in an essential ritual such as that of water." (Ettore Sottsass)
Sottsass’s statement introduces the project on display at H2Otto during Fuorisalone, designed by H2O Nuovi Scenari per la Sopravvivenza. The event was divided over the four days of Design Week, April 3 through 6, with the involvement of sixteen architects, four for each evening. Each of the architects was asked to interpret the theme of Water through live creation of a painting and a text (letter, poem, story).
The paintings were donated to H2O and will be auctioned off to fund an educational project all over the world. The texts and images of the works will appear in a publication to be published by the H2O association to fund its initiatives promoting conscientious use of water and protection of this essential resource.
