Alessandro Mendini is back at the helm of DOMUS, taking over from Flavio Albanese at the end of his three year term.
The first issue under Mendini’s direction will be published in April, coiciding with the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Mendini will edit 11 issues before handing over the torch to Joseph Grima, who is already busy adapting the magazine to the new digital media, independently developing content for the web and other new media.Mendini has said that the slogan of the new DOMUS will be for a new utopia because
The entire history of great transformations in architecture and design is a history of new utopias. And this is the direction we want to move in: looking all over the world for projects that reveal scenarios and attitudes toward living characterised by a positive attitude towards the future. New utopias which are not so much technological as humanistic and psychological. For we need interior ecology before we can have exterior ecology. The new Domus goes back to its roots as a "Magazine for the home", offering examples of the dignity of living with objects, the city and the home itself. Its graphic design is also based on that of the original Domus, with a classic look featuring sunny sequences, text and images.
