Mecanoo's Birmingham Library wins a RIBA Award

Mecanoo's design for the Birmingham Library has won one of RIBAìs regional awards (RIBA West Midlands Regional Award) and will vie with other important buildings in Britain and Europe for the RIBA Stirling Prize.

44 buildings in the UK and 12 European projects have been shortlisted for the prestigious award presented by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), including The Shard skyscraper designed by Renzo Piano and the London Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid .
Mecanoo's library, with its unique facade covered with filigree, was completed in 2013.
Its presence has attracted numerous visitors, making the neighbourhood into a lively cultural centre for the city and providing a concrete demonstration of the role architecture can play in the life of a community.
