Mario Botta,

Churches & Cemeteries,

It will stand on the old Fiat steel mill and look like an enormous gear: Chiesa del Santo Volto, the new church by Swiss architect Mario Botta, will give the city of Turin a new urban landmark and contribute to the city's architectural and urban character.

Mario Botta, Chiesa del Santo Volto, Turin, Italy The new structure will therefore provide a parish church in an area which does not now have one, and also house the new offices of the Metropolitan Curia and an auditorium and conference hall. The work, designed by one of the top contemporary architects, reveals the city of Turin's desire for something that is new and beautiful, and above all its desire for renewal, for strong, distinctive landmarks, also in view of the upcoming 2006 Olympics. This means an important added attraction for a city that wants to offer not only services, but inner growth and a stronger identity, also in aesthetic terms.
