Expo Milano 2015 and the agency Magnum/Contrasto asked 9 world-renowned photographers to represent the themes of the Clusters. The Clusters are theme pavilions focusing on a specific theme or type of food and hosting a number of countries, offering each of them an opportunity to interpret the theme in its own individual space.
The photo exhibitions presented in dramatic installations in the common areas of each Cluster represent the places, growing methods and people linked with the various themes.
On May 21, for example, photographer Alex Webb told the story of his travels among the colours of The Spice Road in the exhibition in the Spice Cluster at Expo Milano 2015.
The other photographers involved, and themes they addressed, are: Ferdinando Scianna for the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster, Martin Parr for the Cocoa Cluster, Gianni Berengo Gardin for the Rice Cluster, Irene Kung for the Fruit and Vegetables Cluster, Alessandra Sanguinetti for the Islands, Sea and Food Cluster, Joel Meyerowitz for the Grains and Tubers Cluster, George Steinmetz for the Arid Zones Cluster, and Sebastião Salgado for the Coffee Cluster.
