Exhibition,

February 20 through March 27 2011 Iwan Baan’s photographs will tell the story of the life that goes on in the new buildings designed by great international architects from Herzog and de Meuron to SANAA, from Frank Gehry to Koolhaas, in a trip around the world seen through the eyes of a young architecture photographer.

Iwan Baan and architecture photography The exhibition focuses primarily on the life that goes on around great works of architecture such as Herzog and de Meuron’s great stadium in Beijing or SANAA’s centre in Lausanne, in Medellin cultural centre in Colombia or the library in Tombouctou, Mali. Iwan Baan tells the story of the building’s evolution through its integration in its context, the inhabitants’ relations with the built space and the role of colour. The exhibition also questions the role of architectural photographers in the transmission, documentation and memory of the works of architecture of an age. Iwan Baan began taking photographs of works of architecture in 2005, when he proposed a photography project to architect Rem Koolhaas, the beginning of a partnership that is still underway. Today his photographs tell the story of the works of Herzog and de Meuron, SANAA, Morphosis, Frank Gehry, Toyo Ito, Steven Holl, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Zaha Hadid and young architects such as Sou Fujimoto or Selgas Cano.
