Ingenhoven Architects, 1 Bligh Office Tower, Sydney

The skyscraper built by Ingenhoven Architects has won numerous prizes, including the recent silver medal in the Fassa Bortolo International Sustainable Architecture Competition. 1 Bligh Office is the first skyscraper in Australia to win the award for Best Tall Buildings Asia & Australia , an important prize presented by CTBUH (Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat).

Ingenhoven Architects of Germany was appointed for the project after winning an international competition in 2006. The architects chose an elliptical floor plan for the skyscraper, determined by the orientation of the sunlight, permitting unhindered panoramic views of Sydney's famous Harbor Bridge.

The key to the project is a central atrium as tall as the skyscraper itself, a solution providing natural ventilation and lighting in the rooms opening onto this central hollow.
