Index Urbis – Architecture Festival in Rome

A packed calendar of events for the first Architecture Festival in Rome, due to open with a lectio magistralis by architect Alvaro Siza Vieria and with contributions and speeches on specific topics, referred to as Nodes, by James Corner – Field Operations, Bernard Tschumi, Eduardo Souto De Moura, Massimiliano Fuksas, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara – grafon Architects, Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, Stefano Boeri and Richard Burdett. The theme of the first edition, organised by architect Francesco Garofalo, is “index urbis”. Using Kevin Lynch’s words in the Image of The City reflecting the concept that the city is “not a final result, just an ongoing succession of phases” the event’s cultural theme is analytic observation of the city of Rome, its growth and its future role, with the aim of collecting reflections on the city by experts and the cultural and civil community through comparison with other big cities. The Festival locations will be: The Architecture House – the Roman Aquarium, the Auditorium at the Parco della Musica, MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art and MACRO Testaccio.
