The German architects radically transformed the original home, dressing it in new clothes with square, modern, dynamic forms. Thus the old-fashioned gabled roof was replaced with a flat one, the cement box was replaced with one made of glass and steel, and more windows were opened up to offer views of the countryside and the city. The volumes of the home give up their usual form and are broken down, articulated, and offset in a compositional and plastic game which renews the relationship between the land and the built environment.
