A new financial centre will be built on a piece of land measuring about 80,000 metres square cut in half by a river in Nanjing, China, to plans by the German architects of gmp Architects (von Gerkan, Marg & Partners) who won the competition.
In the layout planned by the architects, the lot is to be bordered by the buildings, leaving large green areas in the centre with well-defined paths.
The ten tower blocks in the complex are arranged like the blades of a windmill, with 7 buildings around the outside varying in height from 120 to 200 m and three buildings on the inside varying from 130 to 150 m.
The buildings? façades play an essential role in terms of project sustainability. The architects made design and structural choices guaranteeing both shade and natural lighting for the offices.
