Forte, Gimenes & Marcondes Ferraz - Grid House
The perfect fusion of architecture and nature, the little valley in which the home is built provided the inspiration for this private home designed by Brazilian architects Forte, Gimenes and Marcondes Ferraz.
What the architects designed is not so much a private home as a live-in garden in which a number of pavilions containing various functions are arranged on a grid of corten steel girders.

The project fits perfectly into its context because of its use of local materials and the care the architects have taken not to alter the state of the site, for instance by preferring use of metal girders for the foundations so that they would not interfere with the underground.
The project re-launches the concept of collaboration between architects and artists in Brazil, in which artists work directly with cladding materials chosen by the architects.

The clients who commissioned the “Grid House” have been awarded the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building - OCCAM Under 40.
