November 12 to 20 the city of Florence will host the first International Cultural and Environmental Heritage Week, an event that will transform the city into a global workshop of art, culture and economics.

Florens 2010 The first edition of this event planned by Giovanni Gentile, Chairman of Confindustria Firenze and the Florens 2010 Promotional Committee under the artistic direction of Davide Rampello will include 30 conventions, 10 exhibitions and 150 events in public and private locations all over the city and in nearby towns. The purpose is to promote cultural and environmental heritage as a driver for economic growth, and the theme of this year’s event is “Making the most of our heritage by reinterpreting it”. The events planned include, to mention only a few, a lectio magistralis by architect Rem Koolhaas, designer Chris Bangle and critic Achille Bonito Oliva; discussions among intellectuals from a variety of backgrounds such as philosopher Sergio Givone and architect Richard Rogers; and workshops focusing on particular themes. In Scandicci, for example, architect Mario Botta, urban planner Alberto Magnaghi and professor of Economics Antonio Calafati will talk about “The city as cultural heritage site ”.
