#floornaturelive has returned to the Arsenale to have a further look on the national participations dealing with the question of how “Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014”.
For “Fundamentally Hong Kong”, in front of the main entrance of the Arsenale, the curatorial team has developed a cross-disciplinary approach combining film and architecture to present the development of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region in the last 30 years.
“Monolith Controversies”, the Chilean theme, is a research on residential buildings, donated by the former URSS to Chile as a help to the country's way to socialism: an invitation to reflect upon the deep political and ideological struggles of the past.
Argentina deals in “Ideal/Real” with the contrast between “ideal” and “real”, a tension helping to absorb modernity. “Mountains beyond the Mountains”, the Chinese participation, completes its exhibition talking about the way you can bring tradition into modernity with an outside installation in the “Giardini della Vergine”.
The work of Alvaro Siza for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition as an architectural sculpture is our link to the national pavilions in Giardini della Biennale. Here just a little glance with some images: the Nordic Pavilion, the Korean Pavilion and “Padiglione Venezia”, this year curated by Daniel Libeskind with the installation “Sonnets in Babylon”. Not only some 100 unpublished drawings but a cooperation with the students from IUAV, trying to build a better interaction with the city of Venice.
