The project by Atelier Jean Nouvel features exhibition spaces on two levels with an intermediate level by the sea for service and office areas, with a total surface area of 20 thousand square metres.
The modular project includes a second phase for renovation of the existing pavilion D, with a total of 30 thousand square metres of gross display space. Large reflective glass surfaces ensure that the building’s southern side blends into the sea.
"The interior does not seem very much more complicated at first sight,” explains Nouvel. “Two big halls facing the sea, with the one under the roof as a covered terrace completely open onto the port. The other is an extension of the wharf right into the building, again completely open. When I say open, I mean that it is entirely covered with glass, but can be opened when the wind conditions and temperature permit".
