One of the world's biggest architectural complexes and an important space for the city of Melbourne, a tourist attraction due to its symbolic value and the buildings around it: Federation Square in central Melbourne was built in 2001 to commemorate the Centennial of the Federation and give the city a new central focus.

NGV Australia's Ian Potter Centre is the world's most important gallery of Australian art; its architecture encloses a spectacular exhibition space with more than 20 galleries. The complex is perhaps the most important construction in this city made up of irregular buildings with metallic surfaces. The mosaic of its cladding gives the building even greater dynamism made up of triangular parts put together in a variety of ways in different hues of grey and gold.
All these buildings face onto a square big enough to contain up to 15 thousand people. The square is paved with sandstone from Kimberley (Western Australia), rising gently above street level to offer a panoramic view of the city and the Yarra River.
