Vitra Design Museum Gallery recently opened an exhibition of work by young Dutch designers. The exhibition title "Confrontations" establishes a link with another exhibition being held on the same dates, "Gerrit Rietveld – The Revolution of Space", open at the Vitra Design Museum until September.
The intention is in fact to underline the relevance of Rietveld?s work and of that of the young designers, who use design methods similar to those of the well-known Dutch architect and designer.
Six young Dutch design studios are involved in the exhibition: 2012Architecten, Catalogtree, Studio Formafantasma, Lucas Maassen, Dirk Vander Kooij and Studio Wieki Somers.
Catalogtree designed the exhibition installation, while the other five studios were matched with 5 manufacturers in Basel and Freiburg to come up with an object or installation for the exhibition together.
The works were completed in performances open to the public June 12 to 16, and the exhibition was opened on the occasion of "Art Basel?.
