An exhibition of the work of Ettore Sottsass will inaugurate the new wing of the Vitra Design Museum, the Vitra Design Museum Gallery, in June.

Ettore Sottsass – Enamels, Vitra Design Museum Gallery The Vitra Design Museum Gallery, built by Frank O. Gehry like the main structure of the museum, will host exhibitions of experimental contemporary design, special collections and themes, exhibitions of the work of famous designers, young talents and students in schools of design.

The inaugural exhibition focuses on Ettore Sottsass, offering a new cross section of the works of the Italian designer who died in 2007.
This exhibition will support the one already underway entitled “Zoom. Italian design and photography by Aldo and Marirosa Ballo“, which also includes a vast range of furnishings and objects designed by Sottsass.

Ettore Sottsass started his career in the 50s, and designed important classics of the 60s such as the “Valentine” typewriter produced by Olivetti. In 1981 the designer founded the Memphis Group with Michele de Lucchi and Matteo Thun, which had a great influence on the design of the 80s.
