The jury of the Aga Khan Award for architecture identified the factory designed by Emre Arolat Architectes as a model and prototype for industry. Use of local materials, high ceilings and internal courtyards favouring natural ventilation reducing energy consumption for climate control, and collection of rainwater for use in the production cycle are only a few of the sustainable design solutions adopted by the architects. The jury particularly appreciated the building’s combination of practicality and humanity, revealed in the improved comfort of the work areas, for example, which enjoy natural lighting through wells of light and internal courtyards and distribution of functions (production and administration) on the same level to promote internal communication while nourishing team spirit with visual contact.
