EASTERN PROMISES exhibition, MAK Vienna
The exhibition EASTERN PROMISES - Contemporary Architecture and Spatial Practices in East Asia presents a selection of about 70 architectural and urban planning projects implemented in recent years in China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan: countries that are geographically close together but have very different histories and architectural styles.

The curators of the exhibition at MAK in Vienna, Christian Teckert and Andreas Fogarasi, have selected works of architecture on different scales and with different functions which have some factors in common, such as respect for local traditions and social relations in their setting, combined with the non-hierarchic conception of space typical of eastern cultures.
The selected projects include works by Sou Fujimoto, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa in Japan, Li Xiaodong, Wang Shu and KUU in China, Sheng-Yuan Huang in Taiwan and Mass Studies in South Korea.
