Dirk Bakker. Graphic abstracts and the power of repetition. Dutch photographer Dirk Bakker aka @macenzo, researches the abstract patterns in architecture to deliberately change the graphic appearance of the materials and even of the architecture itself. He then shows viewers clips of the urban landscape, intensifying them by repeating the modules.
With his skilled eye, he captures details of the city on his mobile phone, and he publishes his work on the Instagram social network. This photographer is keyed into the contemporary communication strategy based on the instant visual message. This supersedes the portrait of the reality and hands it back wearing a new, ideal outfit through the mobile photogaphy, a similar approach to the one used by other Visual Art representatives like Andreas Gursky.
Dirk Bakker uses his communicative skills for Seemycity, a project whose goal is to show and market cities – from Amsterdam to Doha – through unique and contemporary mobile photography, also inspiring residents to see, notice and share the architectural and urban details that make each city unique.
Dirk Bakker’s uses research to complete his photos, which whet the viewer’s appetite, opening their eyes and forcing them to stand up and take notice of urban spaces, and as a result they are a socially cohesive force.
