Claudio Silvestrin
Contemporary art centre

Claudio Silvestrin,

Turin,

Auditorium, Exhibition Center,

Cement, Stone,

Elegant but not ostentatious, austere but not extreme, contemporary but timeless: these are the outstanding features of Claudio Silvestrin's architecture, embodied in the building designed for the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin's San Paolo district.

Claudio Silvestrin interview's

Claudio Silvestrin<br> Contemporary art centre Light plays an important role; in such a neutral, calibrated environment, it introduces an element of variability which is evident in the alternation of day and night and the way it appears in different spaces.
The light flowing in through the windows is strong, dazzling, while the light let in by breaks in the false ceilings is fainter, more timid.
The idea behind the project is avoiding overly invasive signs in an environment destined to house works of contemporary art, creating a simple, essential container.
The new space is intended to be a landmark in contemporary art, providing Turin with a centre playing a role similar to that of Germany's Kunsthallen or France's Centres d'Art Contemporain.
It is meant to be a flexible structure, capable of accommodating artists, critics, curators, collectors and visitors alike. It is a place for development and education, with an auditorium structured on the basis of rising steps, like a university classroom, as well as an internet room and a bookshop.
