The prestigious award will be assigned to David Chipperfield in a ceremony coming up in London on February 10 2011

Chipperfield wins the 2011 Royal Gold Medal On October 7 2010 it was officially announced that the 2011 Royal Gold Medal will be awarded to David Chipperfield in an official ceremony scheduled for February 10 2011 at the Royal Institute of Architects in London.
The award has been presented to architects whose work is of international significance since 1848. The long list of Royal Gold Medal winners includes Le Corbusier, Alvar AAlto, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and, to mention only a few of the award winners in the last decade, Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, Herzog and de Meuron and Alvaro Siza. Chairman Ruth Reed noted that Chipperfield is a craftsman of delightful spaces and beautiful detailed buildings and underlined how his career ought to be a source of inspiration for anyone wanting to work on an international scale.
