Venice Villa: The timeless elegance of Venetian terrazzo flooring
Design draws on the experiences of the past to find new inspiration and come up with trendy new styles.
This is also true in the field of ceramic surface coverings, as designers draw on the inspiration of thousands of years of human habitations, from the most common and everyday to noble villas and palaces.
Surfaces in the home have been covered with a great variety of materials over the centuries, from stone to wood and marble, to mention only the most important floor and wall covering materials.
A return to these materials, reinterpreted with a modern twist, has give rise to the styles available on today’s market: from post-industrial to various versions of vintage, from rustic to shabby.
All, as always, contaminated by twentieth-century influences and by the desire to customise spaces with designs reflecting our own tastes and personality.

The new Venice Villa collection by FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti is a typical example of what happens when a centuries-old tradition encounters innovation and new generation ceramic technology.
FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti was established in Fiorano Modenese in 1998 with the declared goal of "making natural stones", and for more than twenty years the company has drawn on the know-how of the Iris Ceramica Group, of which it is a member, coming up with new technically and aesthetically high-performance solutions every year.

In Venice Villa, FMG revives the famous Venetian terrazzo flooring with a contemporary twist.
Venetian terrazzo flooring evolved out of ancient Greek and Roman traditions and has an instantly recognisable characteristic look
The particular character of its structure (which was at first composed of lime binding crushed pieces of terra cotta with waste from construction materials and then marble) has over the centuries made it the ideal surface for places of worship and patrician villas, particularly during its golden age in Renaissance Venice, the city that gives it the name it is still known by today.
In the twentieth century Venetian terrazzo flooring continued to be used for its innate decorative character, particularly in the age of the Art Deco style and the decades that followed. One well-known example in the United States is the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1958).

In Venice Villa, FMG returns to the look of “Seminato” flooring made with crushed marble granules, exploiting the unique properties of full-body porcelain in terms of resistance as well as beauty, colour and brilliance.
Flakes and inclusions offer all the attraction of the original material that inspires the material, faithfully reproducing it in high-tech ceramic surfaces which are easy to lay and clean, qualities Venice Villa shares with the manycollections in the FMG catalogue.

Venice Villa includes a vast range of granule sizes and colours as well as background colours, in which "marble-effect fragments appear like gems and result in elegant, personalised combinations".
The expressive wealth and elegance of Venetian terrazzo flooring continue to stand out today.
FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti porcelain slabs, acknowledged the world over as setting the standard for Italian ceramics, make the Venice Villa collection timeless and appropriate for any decorating style, like any surface combining tradition with contemporary design.
Venice Villa is available in a variety of sizes (120x60, 60x60, 60x30, 20x20 cm, in addition to special pieces) for covering the smallest to the largest spaces.
The Venice Villa colour palette includes eight colours, from the delicate neutral hues of Ivory, Silver, Zinc, White and Beige to the bolder shades of Graphite, Earth and Grey.
There are also five exclusive hues of Green, Pink, Coral, Yellow and Blue offering an unusual modern interpretation of Seminato flooring containing sparkling granules.
The collection is available with three different finishes, natural, polished and structured, celebrating this noble tradition with three attractive surfaces that highlight its eclectic, versatile nature.
