Floor and wall coverings for high traffic areas

Airports, railway stations and metro stations represent a real challenge to today’s architects, involving a lot of problems to be solved: from urban location to internal and external traffic routes; from inclusion in the existing setting and landscape to the absence of natural light characteristic of metro stations.

In these places that act as "bridges", in the sense that people pass through them continuously but don’t stop for long, there are a lot of problems to be solved: from urban location to internal and external traffic routes; from inclusion in the existing setting and landscape to the absence of natural light in metro stations. Surface coverings must be chosen with great care: floors are subject to a lot of pedestrian traffic as well as the passage of heavy mechanical vehicles, while the surfaces covering walls and columns play an important decorative role.

The choice of floor and wall coverings must therefore combine top technical performance with high aesthetic quality, also because these places often host shops as well.

GranitiFiandre’s vast production of porcelain tiles over the years has included numerous floor and wall coverings for airports, railway stations and metro stations all over the world (in Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, Porto Rico and Singapore, among other places), offering a vast range of different responses to very different problems and situations, the most obvious of which is the great difference in temperature and climate (from equatorial to Nordic climates). Porcelain is the perfect material for fulfilling the dual role, technical and aesthetic, required of floors in high traffic areas, passageways and open spaces in general. Porcelain fulfils a variety of functions in all GranitiFiandre projects: its resistance to scratching and high non-slip coefficient are guaranteed by advanced workmanship, and high-tech porcelain represents the best solution for surfaces of this type.

Moreover, because they are easy to clean, absorb little water and withstand chemical and atmospheric agents, porcelain tiles also serve a sanitary function, an important element of personal safety in places that are overcrowded at all times of day and night. Their inalterability over time makes them perfect for spaces lit up with either natural or artificial light, maintaining all the beauty and colour of stone. The many products employed in projects of this type include Asiago porcelain tiles, which, along with Dolomiti, forms the Geotecnica collection. Used in many station and airport projects, Asiago stands out for its granite-like appearance, for its ability to fit into all sorts of different settings and for the use of " 40% recycled material" in its manufacture.
