Vortex, light sculpture and installation by 1024 architecture

French firm, 1024 architecture – Pierre Schneider, François Wunschel, Nicolò Merlin – has designed VORTEX, an architectural sculpture that uses light, music and architecture together to create a unique spatial experience.



The Darwin Ecosystem green building in Bordeaux, France is the brainchild of Think Tank Evolution, a subsidiary of INOXIA, a pioneering consultancy company in the web and responsible communication fields.  Two former industrial buildings were reclaimed and refurbished and now host a variety of activities, including co-working spaces, a skate park, a restaurant and even a city kitchen garden.





VORTEX is an architectural, sculptural and light installation designed by French firm 1024 architecture, and it has come to symbolise this new urban reality; it is like a living, breathing organism made from untreated wood boards and new technologies, with twelve rows of LEDs wrapping around the wood and embracing the footbridge between the two buildings.
These lines represent the flow of data produced and used by Darwin Eco-Système, a reference to the large beating network, the arteries of our global and digital communication.





VORTEX breathes, trembles and pumps. 1024 architecture developed the Mad Mapper software that can be used to control the pulses of light with a joystick so the whole installation beats in time to the music and it can even display the energy consumption: a great example of integrated sculpture, music and IT technology, characteristic of our times.
