VITA NOVA - 6th edition of the restoration days Le Giornate del Restauro (Restoration Days) is a CNA Liguria initiative targeting the world of Cultural Heritage sponsored by the Italian Ministry for the Arts, Culture and Tourism (MiBACT). The event covers a range of different issues involving the conservation, restoration and promotion of sites of cultural interest in Italy. One of these is Ivrea, a 20th century industrial city that has applied for UNESCO heritage-listing.

On 25, 26 and 27 February 2016, Livegreenblog will be in Santo Stefano di Magra, province of La Spezia, to investigate a theme that is very dear to the blog - industrial buildings and repurposing them.

The occasion is the 6th edition of the Giornate del Restauro or Restoration Days, organised by the Ligurian association for craft enterprises and small- and medium-sized enterprises (CNA Liguria) to involve players and experts in areas involving not only conservation and restoration but also promotion of industrial sites seeking new end uses, on the one hand to save the often unusual and valuable actual buildings, and on the other to keep them alive in the collective memory.

An example of this is Ivrea, which applied for UNESCO heritage-listing as a 20th century industrial city. Its application is based not only on the significant architecture commissioned by Adriano Olivetti to bring into being his business vision, but also on the concept of the city as an organic fabric mirroring the social relations of its inhabitants, therefore going beyond mere design and urban planning.

As coordinator of the Steering Committee of Ivrea's application, Dr. Renato Lavarini will be discussing this, using Gianluca Giordano's photographs submitted as part of the official file. Because here, like elsewhere, images get the message across the best, giving us unusual views and overwhelmingly beautiful details, hidden gems in Ivrea that are really worth conserving and repurposing, to get back to the theme “VITA NOVA – gli Edifici Industriali e il riutilizzo a fini culturali” (NEW LIFE - Industrial Building and repurposing them for cultural use).

The event will be held in the former Ceramica Vaccari ceramics factory, whose calibration room has been restored and turned into a centre for conferences, courses and concerts, while the 18 March 2016 session will take place in Palazzo Tobia Pallavicino, Genoa.
