The Golden Pin Design Awards The Golden Pin Design Award and the Golden Pin Concept Design Award seeks to increase visibility and raise awareness of the design concept for the 'huaren' (Chinese-speaking) communities, currently one quarter of the world market! This is the first of a series of Livegreenblog articles exploring this theme.

Bridging the gap between perception and content - this could define the mission of the Golden Pin Design Award and the Golden Pin Concept Design Award. The Golden Pin Award Group is executed by the Taiwan Design Center and organised by the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, which supports the initiative. The idea is to improve the way design objects, visuals and spaces cater to the desires and needs of “huaren” consumers.
The fact is that there is an unbelievably disproportionate number of people in the “huaren” (Chinese speaking) market - a whole fourth of the total world market - so the international media should be paying it a lot more attention.

Thanks to our contacts with the Taiwan Design Center, over the next few weeks, Livegreenblog will be able to explore the various aspects of “huaren” design, starting from the excellent design in the running for the Golden Pin Design Award 2015 Design Mark, which targets companies and professionals from all over the world that sell, manufacture or design products in or for the 'huaren' market, in the four categories: product, visual communication, packaging and spatial design. The majority of the 57 Finalists in the running for a 2015 Best Design trophy hail from Taiwan, with companies from China, Hong Kong, and Singapore making up the rest of the group. The Finalists were narrowed down from among 575 Design Mark Recipients from from seven countries and zones in Asia and Europe.

For the 34th edition of the award, the jury noted increased interest in the social aspects concerning minority groups, the aged and children, more and more at the centre of design strategies. All of this was combined with a high level of originality, quality and sustainability.

Instead, the 13th Golden Pin Concept Design Award is open to students, professionals and corporations from all over the world, seeking to raise awareness and appreciation of the 'huaren' ideology and philosophy in design.

This year, a third award has been added, The Young Pin Design Award, celebrating the work of students graduating from major universities and schools in Taiwan. The winners are announced in May every year, during the biggest student design exhibition in the world, the Young Designers’ Exhibition (YODEX).
A whole new world to discover together with our readers!
