- The 25th UIA world congress in Durban, South Africa.
2014 is an important year for South Africa – the twentieth anniversary of its rebirth – and the UIA world congress celebrates the contribution of the African continent and of South African architecture to the global development of this field.
Adopting the theme of “ARCHITECTURE OTHERWHERE” UIA2014 invites architects, architecture students and practitioners from other disciplines to “look elsewhere for other ways of creating a better future”.
The debate will explore three sub-themes: resilience through the investigation of living strategies developed by communities to alleviate poverty; ecology also extended to the variable of time as a crucial aspect in decision-making and in the future practice of architecture; values of educating and training the people whose projects shape our future .
UIA2014 has already launched the second “Call for Papers&rdquo, and 31st October 2013 is the submission deadline for abstracts.
Alternatively, students can participate in an international competition seeking short, mid and long-term solutions to develop Warwick Junction, a unique location in central Durban.
As media partner of UIA2014 Durban, Floornature and Livegreenblog will be keeping a close eye on both the event and on all the preparations leading up to it.
