Recife, Brazil: A workshop to save the river.
Water is essential for life, an asset that we must conserve and share. The Praia Capibaribe Workshop is one of many events designed to bring residents from the capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco back to the river.

World Water Day (#WorldWaterDay) was celebrated a few weeks ago and its purpose is to draw attention to one of the most precious natural resources on our planet.

And over a two-week period, the Praia Capibaribe Workshop in Recife created a “Praia” on the Capibaribe river: a place where people could swim, hang out together and party.

Two swimming pools were constructed from recycled material for the project – one on the riverbank and the other a floating pool travelling along this polluted river.

The Praia Capibaribe Workshop is one of the initiatives in Recife aimed at raising awareness of the city’s exploited, polluted waterway as well as bringing local residents back to the river, and not abandoning it to its fate. Because for residents to live better and improve their environmental surroundings, they need to consciously regain control of this vital part of the city.
