Pillagua House by Najas Arquitectos, Quito.

Architect Esteban Najas of Najas Arquitectos has designed Pillagua House, a single-family home near Quito, Ecuador, which provides a highly empathetic response to both the needs of the clients and the specifics of the urban topography.



Pillagua House by Esteban Najas of Najas Arquitectos is located in Valle do Cumbayá, a township east of Quito. The city is lower than the capital – 2200 metres a.s.l. compared to Quito’s 2850 so the climate here is warmer, making Cumbayá more and more appealing particularly for young families who prefer to raise their children in a country-like environment that has the advantage of being close to the city.





Cumbayá is very hilly: this topography poses a major design challenge, but Esteban Najas rose to the occasion with utmost respect for the site, designing a building that follows the lay of the land, working with a strict budget to handle the client brief for a single-family home that would meet the needs of their three children. 





The social area is the heart of Pillagua House, an open space comprising kitchen, lounge and dining room, extending to the lawn and the spectacular tapestry of colours in the naturally sloping garden wall.
The private garden and the public green of the exterior landscape is a constant visual from every part of the house. And the windows of the first floor bedrooms that extend out and over the street, frame the natural views of the green hillsides. 



Casa Pillagua is just one more example of the attentive design of Esteban Najas, in this case harmoniously inserting his architecture into the natural environment.
