Not only containers: the best of Green Museums.
The summer holidays are a good time for cultural experiences as well as for taking a well-deserved rest. Here is a list of museums that strike us for their sustainability and ability to interact with their surroundings.

Aart Architects of Denmark designed the Inspiria Science Center in Graalum, in southeast Norway. The centre is built using zero-impact construction techniques and is a combination of communications and architecture creating new spaces to inform the community about sustainability.

Its basic purpose is to improve the relationship between human beings and the environment, a goal which the museum promotes by getting the population involved: primarily schools, families and tourists. The museum offers more than 70 interactive exhibitions and workshops and northern Europe’s most advanced planetarium to date.

Presenting unique Celtic archaeological finds in a special facility which does not interfere with its surroundings was the mission entrusted to kadawittfeldarchitektur of Germany. Their response was a monolithic building for the Celtic Museum in Glauburg, Germany, a mysterious treasure chest in perfect harmony with the landscape around it.

It stands in “Keltenwelt” (“Celtic World”) Park, which also includes an outdoor route for discovering ancient sites of worship. It is environmentally sustainable thanks to its compact construction, wall and floor coverings, use of recycled materials, insulating glass, “CO2 neutral” pellet-fired heating system and ultra-efficient ventilation system with heat recovery.

In Hauzenberg, Brückner & Brückner’s Granitzentrum museum presenting granite work has become a landmark fitting perfectly into its surroundings, continuing them and investigating them without giving up its own identity, expressed in a clear vocabulary.

The majority of the material used in the façades and roofs is waste material from existing granite quarries.
