Natural light. Woodstock Hospital, Ontario, by Parkin Architects Limited. Canadian firm, Parkin Architects Limited has designed a hospital in Woodstock, Ontario where patient care is provided in a LEED Silver certified building.

The positive effect of natural light on human health is scientifically proven. Optimal lighting conditions also boost energy performance, reduce errors and aid in speedier recovery.

Bearing this in mind, the design team from Canadian firm Parkin Architects Limited, very active in institutional design, designed the Woodstock Hospital around a central courtyard. This means daylight can enter from every corner and the patient rooms are lit naturally.

So, not only can patients can get better faster, but it also decreases staff fatigue and makes them more alert, as well being good for the environment. In point of fact, Woodstock General Hospital is the first hospital in Ontario to achieve LEED Silver certification for its energy efficiency and water saving, as well as its selection of building materials and methods that minimise environmental impact by recycling and improve air quality.

Architecture for human healing that has also successfully kept down its carbon footprint.
