Luminale 2016 for the Light+Building exhibition Luminale is held every two years and is taking place from 13 to 18 March 2016 as part of Light+Building, the world's largest trade fair for lighting and building services in Frankfurt, Germany, organised by Messe Frankfurt. A way to get the whole city involved in lighting design - from professional projects through to low budget lighting!

Light+Building goes City! This forms the basis for Luminale, “light art festival”, an event being held at the same time as the world trade fair for lighting, and with about 200 lighting events it will turn Frankfurt into an international metropolis of light. This is the eighth edition of Luminale 2016 as the biennial of Lighting Culture, and it bridges the gap between the trade fair centre and the urban area of Frankfurt and Offenbach, as well as between manufacturers, designers and the wider public.

The creative light art is located in the two cities on the banks of the Main river, in the galleries, museums as well as stations and parks. Traditionally, the churches play a key role as public places to host the Luminale installations, showcasing a number of works like the light installation by Hartung & Trenz in St. Catherine's church (Katharinenkirche) on the Hauptwache.

One of this edition's highlights is an audio-visual, kinetic light installation by Christopher Bauder, known to the public for the “Berliner Lichtgrenze” commemorating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the wall. Together with Robert Henke, they composed special music for the Luminale, a total experience to enjoy in the Mousonturm theatre.

An event of huge visual impact that also involves photography buffs of course, with a competition awarding the best shots and impressions of the installations across the urban area.

It's easy to visit all the works by bus with a line that links the exhibition area with Frankfurt and Offenbach, stopping at the various places of Luminale 2016, or you can take a free guided tour organised by World-Architects.com.
