Henning Larsen architects: Art Pavilion in Videbæk, Denmark
In 2012, the winner of the 2013 Mies van der Rohe award created a precious container for fine works of art in the park of Videbæk, a town in Jutland, Denmark.

The setting for the pavilion designed by architecture firm, Henning Larsen architects is the green Videbæk park in Denmark.

The building engages directly with the lake, conceptually referencing a Japanese tea house and offering visitors a space focusing on art and leisure. The café terrace in the Art Pavilion floats above the lake, with the reflected water off the lake dancing on the ceiling of the interiors. Lit by a central skylight, this pavilion is a large, flexible space – perfect for the various exhibitions held inside.

In the container it is possible to view works by famous artist, Jens Lund, Danish representative of Art Nouveau, and the models of Henning Larsen Architects; it has in fact become a work of art in itself, thanks to its sculptural facade.

The glass façade is marked by inclined and jutting volumes, whose formal expression alludes both to the surrounding nature and to the landmark of Videbæk, “The V”, a Cor-ten steel sculpture that greets visitors to the town.

The Art Pavilion enriches the park with a new cultural space, a stimulus to discover one of the town’s great sons, and confirmation of the importance of enchanting architecture as ambassador of art.
